List of Websites

This is a list of the websites associated with the book S.

Where we are not sure we will say so, but we won't put anything on here unless we are fairly certain there is a link to the book.

The websites are listed in order of appearance, so the most recent one to be discovered is at the top.

Jen Heyward has posted a couple of new things for us to ponder over, including what appears to be some alternative pages to the last few in the S. book.

There is some doubt about the legitimacy of this website, but it is too obvious to ignore, so until it is proved otherwise we will list it here as connected.

Unsure if this is an official website, but it did have some information that matches the content of the book and a video purporting to be a Summersby confession, which is discussed in the book.

This website address appears on Page 108 of the book.

At the moment when visited it shows static and a banner saying "No Server Signal Found"

Juri Moller

This is a Pinterest board and a twitter account however we are still not 100% sure it is official. It's links and pictures are very convincing though.

Eotvos Wheel

This website was found from an internet search for Eotvos Wheel which is mentioned on page 3 of the book.

It appears to be a blog site that was set up a few years ago discussing the potential identity of V M Straka. It contains some nice information and fills in some of the information that is referenced in the book.

It also has book covers for a few of the other Straka books that are listed (see bibliography.

Radio Straka

This is a series of radio broadcasts about V M Straka and Ship Of Theseus, a mixture of spoken word and an eclectic mix of music and sounds.

Radio Straka was first mention by @Bad_Robot who mentioned it on the 25th of October

There is a website http://www.radiostraka.com and a twitter account @RadioStraka

Bad Robot YouTube Channel

Included for completeness, the Bad robot YouTube channel first released the two teaser videos that were not initially linked to the book, but were later proved to be directly related.

This website address appears on one of the inserts in the book, but the website does not exist.

  1. labalise.fr

This site is mentioned on p. 108 as the location of Desjardins's obituary. There doesn't seem to be much to it, but there could be something hidden in the page's source files.

    1. Thanks for letting us know, I'll check it out

    2. That site looks interesting, just the sort of thing that will feed us some information at some point, worth keeping a close eye on.

Nothing significant in the source that I can see.

    3. www.labalise.fr - La Balise: old style static with banner, "No Server Signal Found"

    5. Oops, sorry, none of the links posted the 1st time :)
The link above didn't wok for me, so re-posting: http://labalise.fr/

A quick WHOIS search shows the site was was created and last updated 03//25/2010. I would have expected something more recent.

But in looking at the source code: the frame comes from this site: http://synology.servebbs.com/labalise/

      Which leads to: http://www.twinup.co/404/index.html

Twin Up / Synology appear to be a company that provide web content, so this may still be a site to watch.

      Here's the GIF -- http://twinup.co/404/img/noise.gif

  2. Odd that it was registered a few years ago, maybe they are just reusing an old previously existing site, but if so they would have had to planned this well before the book was published.

The site is owned by a web design company - thomasnson.fr

  3. The web address dailypronghorn.pollardstate.edu/ looks interesting when you break down certain parts of it.

    1. Pronghorns are deerlike mammals found in North America. They shed their black horns and then regrow them each year.
    2. Pollards are either a tree that's had its top branches cut to encourage growth or it can also be used to describe animals like sheep or deer that have either lost their horns or have cast off their antlers.

Not sure what significance this may have or if examining the web address in this way may help uncover a functional website, but figured I'd toss it out there.

    1. It is strange to have a blatant web address but nothing behind it.

    2. Not really: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.edu#Eligibility

In other words, they couldn't get a .edu address. But they wanted to present something that seemed real, so they used one rather than having the shool's website end in .com or .org, which would just be weirder (at least to me) than not having a website out here in the real world that I could go see.

    3. Yep, I tried that URL when I saw it in the preview video & hoped something might pop-up after the book was released.

They could have just not used a web address.

There's that weird libraryscan.org link on that Juri Moller pinterest board that doesn't go anywhere either.

  4. eotvoswheel.com has been updated with information on Santorini Man and Santorini Society. Let us know what you think.

This website maybe worth a look :

  5. Though I suspect they are both "fake" (I don't even know what's real anymore..) since they don't start until after the book was released, both Jen and Eric have Twitter pages here: https://twitter.com/EricHusch and https://twitter.com/JenTheUndergrad

    1. Looking at the Twitter accounts, I have to say they might be fan created due to the fact that Eric did not trust technology whatsoever. He makes reference to the fact that he doesn't want to send anything by email and so Twitter would fall under that not trusting technology mentality.

  6. SFortunus@KMVastra is another twitter account that looks interesting.

  7. Is there a list of websites yet to be found?

    - Jen mentions of a website created by "a guy in Denmark" that tracks all the places "S" appear (page 14) as well as "50 theories about what the symbol means" (page 23).
    - Eric mentions a website "with a list of all the fictional books and authors VMS ever referred to in his work" (page 21)

  8. We think the Denmark Guy is Juri Moller and they are referencing the Pinterest board.

I'd love to find that other site, although perhaps we ought to start that list here and become that page ;-)

    1. I think the Pinterest Board is fan made, because after I like the board, I was asked to pin in it.

  10. If the Jen and Eric Twitter accounts are fan created, they're pretty good. Some interesting stuff on there, either way.

For instance, 'Eric' claims to have found an eyewitness record of Vaclav's jump from the Charles bridge which says he prayed at the statue of St Anthony of Padova (patron saint of lost things and of sailors), then touched the statue of St John of Nepomuk and then jumped. They say they 'know what that means'. According to Wikipedia, Nepomuk is often depicted 'holding a finger to his lips, as if protecting a secret'. Also, those two statues really are next to each other on the bridge. Pretty cool.

    1. They're interesting, sure, but as long as they're fan made they're just going to lead us around in circles.
Sure, wake me up if they SOLVE a new puzzle from the book instead of just tweeting cryptically. If they had started tweeting before the book's release-- like back in early 2012, when their book interactions were taking place-- that would make them slightly more believable.
As it stands, I'd rather just not feed the trolls

    2. Eh, I'd rather read and learn new things along the way as well, unrelated as they may be. Seeing as how the actual solution to the final book puzzle is likely to be a bit anti-climactic (cf. Lost), you might as well enjoy all the tangents. E.g., today monkeysandrabbitholes led me to an 18th ct. secret society called 'Order of the Golden Poodles'. Not exactly germane, but certainly amusing.

  11. http://eotvoswheel.com is registered to the same ip as badrobot.com

  12. By the by, I'm a little surprised so few of the websites following the Straka mystery have a post about the Summersby confession. Radio Straka (which, like I said, is obviously in-game like Eotvos Wheel) tweeted a link to this youtube video.
I'll see if I can get a transcript written of the Summersby Confession in the next few days here

    1. Curiosity got the best of the spotted cat. I posted my best attempt at the transcript. Corrections welcome.

  13. Added the Jen Heyward Tumblr page to the list.

  14. Took a look at 'whoisstraka.com' Noticed that the 'S' image on the page is in fact an animated .GIF file. Images other than the iconic S flash on screen very briefly. I downloaded the .GIF file and looked at individual frames. Interesting stuff: http://imgur.com/a/t1nJQ#0

    1. Oops, should have linked this instead.

    2. When looking in the source code of whoisstraka.com you'll notice the coordinates: [35° 46.865', -5° 48.797']. They are for the French Embassy in the city of Tangier in Morocco.
Other details present in source code. See https://gist.github.com/jordanbyron/8300152

    4. The PGP Key http://whoisstraka.com/pgp.asc on this page belongs eto th gmail-account
      VM Straka whoisstraka@gmail.com

  15. labalise.fr doesn't show the static graphic anymore. It gives a 403 error.

Whois says it was last updated on 11/21/2013 so presumably it's been this way for awhile.
